I've created 3 Overclocked profiles, running at 4.6GHz, 4.7GHz, 4.8GHz and the default 4.2GHz - it's very easy to switch between them. 3D Bench Mark TestsBefore buying a Gaming PC, you should know what the Computer is capable of via a bench marking product such as 3D Mark. Therefore, I've tested the computer via Fire Strike Ultra and Fire Strike (normal version) to show you exactly what you'll be getting (results file kept for proof and analysis). Before spending your hard earned money on a gaming machine, you should ask any seller what the 3D Mark bench mark score is as this will tell you what the computer is capable of, rather than just relying on specifications (words). Surprisingly, this set up runs better than some GTX 1080 SLI systems! Fire Strike 1.1 - 18034 - Classified as a 4k Gaming PC score, better than 97% of all results (with result file for proof)Fire Strike Ultra 1.1 - 5562 - Classified as a 4k Gaming PC score (with result file for proof) From the moment you press the power button, you will be at the Windows log in screen in about 7 seconds, my TV takes longer to load (from cold, including bios, etc). It runs all games I've played at a 4k resolution with everything set to max, so well that it's mesmerising and makes for the truest immersive gaming feeling (that I've ever had).Doom runs at a constant 60-70FPS @ 4k resolution with everything set to max. Planning A lot of people in their adverts state that their build has no expense spared, I can genuinely say that this is the case with this build, if you compare all the individual specs that I’ve put together below, it will be hard to find another computer that is on par, all things considered at this price point. I created this computer in pursuit of top end 4K/VR graphics, ultimate performance but also with the best no maintenance cooling available, so that everything would be more efficient, stable but also be more durable as a consequence. Hence why I bought an all in one water cooler for the CPU and separate one for the GPU but also it’s the reason why I bought the inverse case, as the design was more efficient for cooling, it’s also the reason why the front and bottom of the case have as many fans as psychically possible. I tried to maximise the use of Corsair components, 4 out of the 8 components used are Corsair, including the Case, PSU, Water cooler and RAM. Corsair provide very high quality products. I only opted not to use Corsair when other high end manufacturers offered something better in terms of performance. Other components are provided by Asus, Samsung and Gigabyte. No generic non branded parts have been used in the construction of this computer, this is a computer that I would personally have built for myself. The Gigabyte GTX 1080 Xtreme Gaming Water cooling is the latest, fastest GTX 1080s, not the standard Founder’s Edition that is mainly bundled with gaming computers on . The Gigabyte Xtreme Gaming card is water cooled, it’s one of the dearest GTX 1080. I have created a chronological timeline of the build which I’ve documented in pictures. Components Computer Case - Corsair Carbide 600C Clear Windowed Full Tower PC Case - http://www.corsair.com/en-gb/carbide-series-clear-600c-inverse-atx-full-tower-case This case features an inverted motherboard layout for a more efficiently cooled computer, case fans are closer to the motherboard and components than on non-inverted layouts. The Design of the case is sleek, minimal and clean, with the addition of an acrylic see through side panel, which can be very simply lifted off of its hinges. A modern looking case, which will allow all LEDs within to shine through. I will leave the protective film on the acrylic panel. CPU – Intel i7 6700K Water Cooled by Corsair Hydro Series™ H115i 280mm Extreme Performance Liquid CPU Cooler– http://www.corsair.com/en-gb/hydro-series-h115i-280mm-extreme-performance-liquid-cpu-cooler The CPU clocks at 4.2 GHz, with no load the CPU will be at High teens to low twenty degrees Celsius (18-25 degrees) this is thanks to a massive 280mm radiator situated at the front of the computer, connected to 2 140mm Corsair fans (SP140L PWM), which have been set up as pull fans feeding air into the case. There are another 2 SP140L PMW Corsair fans situated at the base of the case, which are pulling in air from underneath. At the rear there’s another SP140L PMW Corsair fan, which is acting as an exhaust. At the rear of the base of the case, there’s the 120mm radiator for the GTX 1080, which also has a 120mm fan on it, set up as an exhaust. These fans are fully controllable via the Corsair Desktop application and the Gigabyte application, as well as a built in switch in the case, next to the power button, with 3 fan speed modes. All in all this computer has 2 radiators, 4 fans set to pull in air into the case and 2 fans set as exhaust vents therefore ensuring maximum air flow also, for GPU and CPU. To maximise efficiency on the fans and cooling, the case used has an inverted motherboard lay out, therefore all the fans are as close to the motherboard and components as is possible. The CPU can very easily be overclocked to 4.6 GHz and the temperature will stay below 60 degrees Celsius, water cooled provides more potential to over clockers, compared to conventional air cooled methods - http://www.corsair.com/en/blog/2015/april/liquid-cooling-vs-air-cooling-which-performs-better Warranty – 2 years for CPU and Water cooler. Corsair offer a 7 year warranty on this PSU but their website states 10 years! Motherboard – Asus MAXIMUS VIII HERO - https://www.asus.com/uk/Motherboards/MAXIMUS-VIII-HERO/#more Asus arguably make the best quality motherboards in the world. This motherboard has all the features required to ensure that it’s still able to be upgraded in the future, an SLI set up could quite easily be achieved and would complete the package. Thanks to the 1000Watt Corsair PSU that I’ve supplied, no additional add-ons would be required. The motherboard even came with an SLI bridge so only the additional GPU would be required. Warranty for motherboard – 2 years. GPU –GeForce GTX 1080 Gigabyte Xtreme Gaming Water Cooling - http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=5919#kf The GeForce GTX 1080 is the latest, fastest and greatest graphics card out at the moment. The Gtx 1080 Gigabyte Xtreme Gaming has the highest clock speeds of all of the GTX 1080s out therefore, this specific graphics card is the best of the best. On top of this, the card has a dedicated, all in one water cooling system. Which means that despite having the highest clock speeds, no other GTX 1080 can come close to the level of cooling provided. The cooler the GPU runs the more efficient, less strain, more intense gaming sessions, which last for as long as you can go, idyllic conditions for gamers. The card itself is very impressive, it has space grade PCB for protection, as well as Titan X-grade Chokes and Capacitors for Extreme Durability. Clock speeds comparison The EVGA Founders Edition GTX 1080 is as follows: 1607MHz Core, 1733MHz Boost. Compared to the Gigabyte Xtreme Gaming Water Cooling GTX 1080: 1784 MHz, 1936 MHz Boost in pre profiled OC mode. However, in reality the GPU can easily hit a stable 2.1GHz, whilst at a very cool temperature. There’s a lot of Over Clocking ability with this card as it’s water cooled, the fan operation can be completely adjusted via the Gigabyte application, you can determine what percentage of fan operation occurs at whatever temperature you want. On top of this, you can adjust the RAM clock speeds as well as the GPU clock speeds, I’ve managed to hit 2.3GHz. Games ran smoother and felt more effortless on the computers behalf but there were artefacts present in the rendering but it was stable. This leads me to believe that the GPU has a lot more potential but the software needs to be improved before it can be fully taken advantage of. Therefore, unlike other GTX 1080s, this GPU may actually have more to offer than what it’s capable of at the moment. I’ve tested this rig out on Tomb Raider with everything set to max besides for shadows, which was one setting below (penultimate), outputting native 4k at 60Hz and there’s no lag or negative impact to gaming. I was playing on my 65” TV and the detail was mind blowing and effects are mesmerising. It truly is best gaming experience I’ve ever had. The GPU is also VR ready but I haven’t got a VR headset to test this with but there’s no doubt it will be amazing. This is the only GTX 1080 that is covered by a 4 year warranty! The next fastest card (may provide 1 or 2 more FPS per game BEFORE Over clocking the Gigabyte) is the Palit GTX 1080 GameRock Premium Edition. However, this will run hotter than the Gigabyte to output the same FPS. Not only that, but its warranty duration is only 2 years, half of the Gigabyte card. Therefore the Gigabyte still has a lot of potential for overclocking as it runs substantially cooler and is protected by warranty for longer, for extra peace of mind, which is why I chose the water cooled Gigabyte GPU, it’s the ultimate package, no expense spared. About Me I’m a Systems Engineer by profession, I have got 5+ years’ experience working in London City at the largest global firm in its industry. However, my team and I have just been made redundant, we were responsible for the desktop environment and infrastructure globally. Therefore, I take pride in the computers that I build and ensure that I go through a Hardware QA process, just as would be required at an enterprise level. I also have a Software QA process which is documented, should you decide that you want me to install the OS, etc too. No OS will come with this computer, the storage drive will be formatted and ready for your OS installation. However, at an additional cost, I can install the OS, to its cleanest form, with all Windows updates installed with all non-essential settings disabled and all unwanted software removed, all the latest internet browsing tools installed (option to remove bloat services, etc), latest drivers for all hardware installed and utilities for over clocking installed and optimum profiles created for the GPU. Once I have satisfied the documented QA process and everything is set up as required, I will then take an image of the drive, which can be used as the ultimate backup and can be restored via boot up options quite easily, essentially meaning that you will never have to “re-install windows”. All individual component boxes have been kept, along with all documentation and paperwork. The computer will be placed in the box that the Corsair case originally came in with all padding and plastic protective holders firmly securing it in place. I also have the electronic copies of the individual component orders, which I can print and provide to you for warrant purposes, etc. All warranties are for the individual components from the suppliers I bought the components from, some require online activation, such as the GPU.
